New World Preparatory Charter School in Staten Island, New York, has embraced cutting-edge Power over Ethernet (PoE) to enhance its learning environment through smart lighting and automation. Partnering with MHT Technologies, the school installed 1,081 PoE-powered lighting fixtures across classrooms, hallways, and common areas. This system, supported by 541 PoE node drivers and 25 Cisco 24-port PoE switches, provides energy-efficient lighting and seamless data connectivity.
A key feature of this PoE school project is its integration of 256 occupancy sensors, which automatically adjust lighting based on room usage, reducing energy waste. Additionally, 140 smart wall switches give staff manual control where necessary. MHT Technologies’ Inspextor software enables centralized monitoring, scheduling, and remote management, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
The benefits of the use of PoE in schools is clear: reduced energy costs, simplified installation using Ethernet cabling, and enhanced lighting control for a better learning atmosphere. The system’s scalability allows for future smart technology integrations, making New World Preparatory a model for intelligent educational infrastructure. By implementing Power over Ethernet in schools, the institution has created a cost-effective, sustainable, and adaptable learning environment that sets the stage for future advancements in smart building technology.
